Costa Rica is famous for its wildlife reserves, and this was the main focus of our visit. The variation of habitats and critters was overwhelming. On one walk we saw 2 and 3-toed sloths, a boa, turtles, 3 types of monkeys including the squirrel monkeys (which are very rare and only found in 2 places in Costa Rica), many types of birds including humming birds many and insects, 2 species of bat, armadillo, 3 types of lizard, a salamander, and more - all in a 4 hour walk! On another walk we saw lots of birds including several Keel-Billed Toucans, Blue-Crowned Motmot, Broad-Billed Flycatcher, Brown Jay, Hoffman's Woodpecker, Emerald Toucanette, Roufus-and-White Wren, 2 different types of squirrels, White-Collared Swift, Turkey and Black Vultures, Kiskadee, Squirrel Cuckoo, Green-Spiny Lizard, Three-Wattled Bellbird, lots of cool insects including many blue Morphos, Flat-Tailed Hummingbird, Groove-Billed Ani!

One of the best things was just walking in the forest. While not much is primary there are large areas of quality forest that is in late stages of re-forestation and has massive biodiversity. Walking through cloud forest was really magical.
